Droppin’ the Ball
For those of you don’t know yet, Rogers Sportsnet will no longer be carrying any NBA telecasts this season. While this may not sound like a big deal for many people, it’s actually quite big for us ball fans.
While I was happy in the beginning that no Raptors games for Rogers Sportsnet means more Raptors games for our boys at theScore and RaptorsTV, but then I started thinking and realized this is bad for NBA fans in Canada. First off, for all those people who are still rocking basic cable and don’t get channels such as TSN, theScore and RaptorsTV, it means they can no longer watch Raptors games unless they are on CBC (which is once a week if you’re lucky). Secondly, Rogers Sportsnet with all its affiliates (East, West, and Pacific) showed a lot of ball games in the evenings and many of the west coast games. That means a lot of NBA fans and people who could become NBA fans will be missing a lot of games and that’s just not cool.
On the other hand, I guess it’s a good thing that NBA broadcasts are on different networks because they won’t cut out the feed before the end of the game like Sportsnet used to. But ah well, now let’s just hope theScore shows even more games than before and hooks up us Canadian viewers with more nationally televised games from the states.
In other Raptor related news:
Jack ‘the Coach’ Armstrong lost his job after Rogers Sportsnet dropped the NBA so he was picked up by TSN. He’ll be doing Raptor broadcasts on TSN alongside the new play-by-play announcer Matt Devlin. He’ll also be a NBA Insider for TSN… that job title doesn’t really mean anything.
Leo Rautins is moving into the TSN studio with Rod Black and will be doing play-by-play with Matt Devlin on CBC.
And now a little bit of Ron-Ron.
Let’s let Ron-Ron Artest give us "Five Good Minutes."
